Thessaloniki woman caught in middle of con

A 47-year-old woman arrested in Thessaloniki on Thursday is believed to have scammed at least 27 people out of a total of 86,000 euros by promising them licenses to open OPAP betting shops and money from European Union structural funds.

The woman was caught while receiving 800 euros in marked bills from a mother and daughter who had alerted police in advance.

Police found files at her home containing the details of other scams, which they believe she carried out by posing as a well-connected ministry official.
