Driver, passengers hurt as Albanian vehicle overturns The driver of bus owned by Albanian Lines was seriously injured and 12 passengers slightly hurt when the bus overturned on the national road 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Ioannina early yesterday morning. According to witnesses, the driver Braho Ariyianit, 48, fell asleep at the wheel. Five of the passengers were hospitalized in Ioannina. US DEAL Man sentenced to death will serve life term in Greece Costas Fotopoulos, a Greek who was sentenced to death in the United States for involvement in two murders, will be sent to Greece to serve a life sentence, Mega Channel reported yesterday. Fotopoulos had been on death row in a Florida prison for 13 years. Justice Minister Philippos Petsalnikos told Mega: «It is interesting that a person who was sentenced to death in the United States could be sent to Greece at the request of the Justice Ministry.» It was not clear when Fotopoulos, who claims innocence, will arrive. BOMB Police concerned by device Police destroyed a homemade bomb in a controlled explosion late on Friday night after an anomymous call warning that a bomb would go off at offices belonging to the US insurance company ALICO on Michalopoulou Street. It had been two years since a similar attack and though the device did not resemble those used by terrorist groups in the past, some police officials expressed concern at what this new attack might mean. EU architects A draft presidential decree has been tabled with the Council of State to bring Greek legislation in line with EU directives and which will allow architects from other EU member states to practice in Greece. Fire under control A large firefighting force was on stand-by yesterday after bringing under control a fire that broke out in a paper warehouse in Inofita, Viotia on Saturday evening. The cause of the fire, which destroyed about half of the building, was still under investigation but sources said arson was suspected. The building belongs to Iris SA, a company owned by the Lambrakis group and Pegasos publications. Half of it was rented to the Angelidis-Georgakopoulos firm. Kefalari cafe A fire completely destroyed the Alaska Cafe in the northern suburb of Kefalari yesterday afternoon. An investigation is being held. Demis in Madrid International striker Demis Nikolaidis has signed a one-year contract with Spanish club Atletico Madrid for a reported 1.3 million euros. Nikolaidis played with AEK for the past seven seasons.
