Islamic center in Athens neighborhood of Moschato vandalized

Authorities on Friday were investigating a predawn attack against the Greek-Arab Educational and Cultural Center in the southern Athens suburb of Moschato.

Unknown individuals sprayed anti-Islamic slogans and placed a pig’s head in front of the building’s entrance. They also sprayed a red Christian cross on the door and threw blue paint on the brick walls of the center.

The center, which also functions as a place of worship for the city’s Muslims, had introduced additional security measures following similar attacks in the past.

Attacks on the city’s makeshift mosques have been on the rise in recent years, coinciding with the rise of far-right Golden Dawn.
