Warning issued as Evros River surpasses safety level

The level of the Evros River at Pythio, northeastern Greece, exceeded its warning limit on Wednesday.

The reading was 5.99 meters, which is 9 cm above the safety level.

Evros Mayor Dimitris Petrovic said that if the level passed above 6.05 meters, barriers at Pythio would be opened to prevent the river swelling further.
