SYRIZA MP responds to hunger strike criticism

SYRIZA MP Yiannis Micheloyiannakis, who announced on Saturday that he was going on hunger strike in solidarity with Syrian refugees protesting outside the Greek Parliament in Athens, responded to criticism after he was seen leaving the protest site to have coffee at a nearby establishment.

“I have been drinking coffee and tea since day one. You can ask the cafe owners if I have let any food pass my lips,” he told journalists.

Responding to New Democracy MP Foteini Pipili, who accused him of seeking to capitalize on the refugee crisis, Micheloyiannakis said, “Ms Pipili knows nothing about the value of human life.”
