Ex-chief of Athens Olympics facility confesses to embezzlement

The former president of a state-owned athletics center on Athens’s southern coast on Monday confessed to embezzling 800,000 euros from the organization’s coffers and was remanded in pre-trial custody by corruption prosecutor Constantinos Sargiotis.

The official, who served as head of the former Olympics facility at Aghios Cosmas from August 2013 to August 2014, allegedly told Sargiotis that he was addicted to gambling and produced evidence showing that he had visited the casino on Mount Parnitha on at least 200 occasions during the period in question.
