Peloponnese town sets up barricades against imported trash

Residents of Levidi, a small town on Mount Mainalo in the northern Peloponnese, have set up blockades at the local landfill to prevent trucks from dumping trash brought from the city of Tripoli.

Locals came out in force summoned by the bells of a local church and have set up 24-hour sentries at the entrance of the landfill.

Tripoli has been looking for locations where it can offload its refuse after its landfill was closed down over a month ago, leaving trash to pile up on the streets of the city.
