Alternate defense minister says 2003 helicopter deal will be probed

Alternate Defense Minister Costas Isichos said on Friday that the government would launch investigations into numerous procurement deals, including the purchase of NH-90 helicopters in 2003, when PASOK was in power and Yiannos Papantoniou was defense minister.

“We have reason to believe that there are questions about the documents exchanged and the agreement,” said Isichos of the deal.

The official said that the government is likely to make further announcements in the next two weeks.

“The government’s pledge to investigate the submarine deal still applies,” he added. “We will soon start dusting files off in that case as well.”
