Greek defense minister snaps back at Ankara
Defense Minister Panos Kammenos on Tuesday issued a terse response to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which over the weekend accused him of showing “a provocative attitude” toward Ankara.
“We won’t seek anyone’s permission to display our national sovereignty,” Kammenos said at an air force handover ceremony in Larissa. Kammenos said he was not sure why Ankara was bothered by his recent visits, noting that “they were visits to Greek territory, Greek islands.”
“I flew in Greek air space, over Greek national waters,” he said. Turkey was probably irked because “we boosted our military units in Evros and on the islands.”
Kammenos added that Greece’s Independence Day parade on March 25 would take place without crush barriers.
