Judges named ahead of Golden Dawn trial’s start on April 20

The judges who are to try dozens of members of Golden Dawn, including the leadership of the neofascist party and all its current and former legislators, were named on Wednesday.

The names drawn for the trial, which is to start on April 20, include Maria Lepenioti, who will preside over the proceedings, with Maria Varka as the court’s alternate president.

The other judges drawn to participate in the trial are Andreas Dokos, Gesthimani Tsoulfoglou and Dimitris Anestis.

Party leader Nikos Michaloliakos (photo) and other prominent members of the party were arrested on charges of running a criminal organization following the killing of an anti-fascism rapper in 2013 by a party supporter.

The arrests prompted a widespread crackdown and judicial investigation that has led to the entire party leadership and dozens of members and supporters facing trial.
