Media get sneak peek at capital’s much-anticipated new museum

After 11 years of construction work plagued by bureaucratic, financial and legal obstacles, Athens’s nearly-completed National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), at the former Fix brewery on Syngrou Avenue, opened its doors to the media for the first time on International Museum Day, Saturday.

Journalists toured the still-empty modernist structure ahead of a press conference by Alternate Minister for Culture Nikos Xydakis, EMST President Katerina Koskina and board chairman George Papanastasiou.

The official inauguration is expected in the coming four to six months.
