High weekend risk of blazes
Authorities on Friday warned that there will be a high risk of wildfires breaking out Saturday and Sunday in many parts of the country as winds are expected to pick up speed while high temperatures persist.
Despite a small break in the heat wave that will see temperatures dip by a few degrees in some parts of the country, Attica, mainland Greece, the Aegean islands, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will remain at risk of wildfires because of strengthening winds.
Tourists and other travelers need to be particularly vigilant about engaging in any activity that could spark a blaze and should alert the fire service immediately if they see any signs of a conflagration.
