Forest fire in northern Athens under control

Firefighters managed to control early Sunday a forest fire broke out a few hours earlier on the foothills of Mount Parnitha in northern Athens.

The fire approached homes in the area between Varibobi and Thrakomakedones but there was no need to evacuate people from the area, the fire service said.

Authorities regarded as suspicious the fact that the fire broke out late on Saturday and that it started in the same area as a previous fire.
