Firefighters battle Xylokastro blaze for second day

Dozens of firefighters on Wednesday continued efforts to contain a large blaze that broke out near the town of Xylokastro, west of Athens, on Tuesday.

Nearly 100 firefighters battled the fire until late on Tuesday night and water-dropping aircraft resumed the effort early on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday afternoon, 86 firefighters continued their efforts. A total of 32 fire engines were at the scene while three planes and three helicopters helped from the air.

On Tuesday, the blaze forced dozens of children to be evacuated from a nearby summer camp.
