Gynecologist found with arsenal granted bail

A 41-year-old Romanian gynecologist who was found to have a large arsenal of weapons at his home in the Cretan port of Iraklio earlier this week was granted conditional release on Thursday after posting 15,000 euros in bail.

The doctor, who works at a hospital in the city, was ordered not to leave the country and to report to his local police station regularly.

Officers confiscated two Kalashnikov assault rifles, two pistols, three swords, an extendable metal truncheon, thousands of rounds of ammunition as well as a bulletproof vest, handcuffs and two balaclavas.

He reportedly told police he is a collector.
