Rain, storms expected in most parts of Greece

Rain and brief storms are expected to sweep through many parts of Greece on Tuesday afternoon, state-run news agency AMNA reported, adding that temperatures will take a small dip.

In Athens, cloudy skies will give way to showers mainly in the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from a daytime high of 25 degrees Celsius to a nighttime low of 19C.

Storm clouds in northern Greece will be limited mainly to eastern parts of Thessaloniki and particularly to the Halkidiki peninsula, with temperatures dropping from day to night from 22C to 17C in the city and from 25C to 16C further north.

A similar picture is expected in western Greece, as well as on the islands of the Ionian, with early afternoon showers getting stronger toward evening and abating overnight, while in Thessaly, the eastern mainland, Evia and the eastern Peloponnese, storms may be quite strong at times.

The islands of the Cyclades and the eastern Aegean are not expected to dodge the wet weather and will also experience high winds reaching 6 on the Beaufort scale, particularly in the southeastern seas.

Blustery weather with spells of downpours and thunderstorms are also forecast for most parts of the country on Wednesday.
