Baker ‘murdered’ landlords over rent
A 32-year-old baker yesterday faced a prosecutor on the island of Syros where he allegedly murdered his parents’ landlords because they had intended to raise their rent. The baker faces charges for the murder of Evangelos and Irini Drosos, both 83, whose bodies were found in their home on October 12, although a coroner said they had died 10 days earlier. Both had been hit on the head with an iron bar. According to police, the 32-year-old admitted to the double murder yesterday, before leading officers to his home where an iron bar and a shotgun were seized. «I was scared that they would throw us out so I decided to kill them,» the suspect is alleged to have told police. Officers said they were alerted to the deaths after the suspect complained of an unpleasant smell coming from the victims’ home.
