The crisis question is political

How and why Greece resorted to the memorandum is an issue of major historical importance. Those responsible for the country?s fiscal derailment ought to provide some answers. The same applies to former Prime Minister George Papandreou, who did not realize the gravity of the situation, despite explicit warnings from his predecessor Costas Karamanlis, and who lost precious time before taking any measures and being taken hostage by PASOK?s old establishment.

The answers should be addressed to Parliament and perhaps to a ?wise men? committee, which could provide some objective and cool-headed answers in return.

Greeks should not expect answers via financial public prosecutors and special courts, given that the first witnesses being summoned to the latter are people who bear great responsibility due to their faulty advice.

Greek statesman Constantine Karamanlis used to say that such matters were meant to be resolved solely on a political level. Let?s remember his words of wisdom during these difficult times.
