EL ALAMEIN VETERANS: Johannesburg, 26 – At an official ceremony here, Field Marshal Viscount Bernard Law Montgomery met for the first time with German Major-General Friedrich Wilhelm von Mellenthin, the leaders of the opposing forces at the World War II Battle of El Alamein. Von Mellenthin was the commander in chief for Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, while Montgomery was the commander of the Allied Eighth Army. Their talks were friendly and concerned their strategies during the battles of Alam el Halfa and El Alamein. PIRANDELLO: The premiere of Luigi Pirandello’s «Six Characters in Search of an Author» is to be held this evening at the Royal Theater. The play will be performed every Wednesday and Friday matinee. CENTER-RIGHT FORMATION: A fresh attempt is being made to set up a third political force in Greece, according to a newspaper report yesterday attributed to a government source. Among the independent deputies said to be heading this effort is former government minister Georgios Rallis. EDA: According to sources, the government has decided to ban foreign visitors and other prominent figures from attending the congress of the United Democratic Left party (EDA).
