Christmas tree lights up in Syntagma Square
Central Syntagma Square in the Greek capital was lit up yesterday afternoon to welcome the Christmas holiday season, amid the coronavirus disease pandemic.
The fir tree, which is from the town of Karpenisi in Central Greece, stands 19 meters high and is decorated with some 5 kilometers of lights comprising 60,000 bulbs. In total, about 350,000 lights have been hung up in Syntagma.
The lights went up without any prior announcement in order to avoid overcrowding due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
