Greek dream for Euro 2024 hinges on Dutch
Greece’s hopes for automatic qualification to the Euro 2024 soccer finals tournament will to a large degree hinge on the Netherlands, which it will take on in Athens on Monday.
Gus Poyet’s Greece side comfortably dispatched Ireland in Dublin on Friday with first-half goals by Giorgos Giakoumakis and Giorgos Masouras, to move above the Netherlands to second place in Group B behind the already qualified France. Greece now has 12 points from six games, having beaten Ireland and Gibraltar home and away.
The Netherlands, who beat Greece 3-0 at home in their first encounter, have nine points from five games. They crashed to a 2-1 home defeat to France on Friday.
