Narrow escape for AEK, as Reds and Greens score four each

Olympiakos and Panathinaikos scored four goals each to produce emphatic wins in the midweek round of Super League games, PAOK put three past Volos, but champion AEK struggled against Atromitos at home before winning in injury time.

Olympiakos played a fifth home game in the first six rounds of the league to date, and scored its fifth win with a 4-1 result against Aris on Wednesday. The league’s top scorer Ayoub El Kaabi offered a brace, Stevan Jovetic scored again, and Jakub Brabec added his own goal to Olympiakos’ tally. Ruben Pardo Rodriguez scored the Thessaloniki team’s consolation.

Panathinaikos recovered from its home loss to AEK on Monday to thrash host Asteras 4-1 at Tripoli on Thursday. Fotis Ioannidis came from the bench to score twice, after goals by Willian Arao and Benjamin Verbic. Nikos Kaltsas had equalized for Asteras.

AEK narrowly avoided a home draw against Atromitos, winning 2-1 on Thursday. The champion led via Nordin Amrabat, Karol Angielski drew Atromitos level from the spot, before Mijat Gacinovic gave AEK all three points, also through a penalty kick.

PAOK strolled to a 3-0 victory over visiting Volos on Wednesday, goals coming from Kostas Koulierakis, Thomas Murg and Ally Samatta.

In other midweek matches Panserraikos scored its second win, downing PAS Giannina 3-2, Panetolikos drew 1-1 with OFI, as did Kifissia with Lamia.

Olympiakos is on 16 points, PAOK has 13, Panathinaikos climbed to 12, AEK reached 11, Panserraikos and OFI advanced to nine. Panathinaikos and AEK have a game in hand.
