Marseille beat rusty Olympiakos in group opener

Olympiakos lost their opening group game in the Champions League on Tuesday night when they were beaten 1-0 at home by French side Marseille.

Playing their first competitive match of the season, the Reds looked rusty against Marseille, who have had a poor start to their domestic season.

A touch of class in the second half was enough for the French. Jeremy Morel beat Vassilis Torosidis on the left in the 52nd minute and put in an inviting cross for Lucho Gonzalez to clip home skilfully.

Olympiakos?s best chance came through second half substitute Raffik Djebbour who connected with a cross but sent the ball over the bar.

“We weren’t as prepared as we should have been but I think a draw would have been a fair result,? said Torosidis. ?Marseille had some chances but we could have equalised after they went 1-0 ahead.?

Olympiakos?s next game in Group F is at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal on September 28.

In the group?s other game on Tuesday, Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund.
