Below-par Olympiakos loses at Dortmund

A spectacular shot by Kevin Grosskreutz after just seven minutes forced Olympiakos?s third Champions League loss in four group games this season as the Reds went down 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund in Germany on November 1.

The Greek champion did not meet the standards required at a game like this or match the performance of its games at Arsenal and at home against Dortmund, to the disappointment of the 4,000 Greeks at the terraces.

Dortmund got to score from its second chance in the game. Mario Goetze passed the ball to Grosskreutz whose fearsome strike from five meters outside the penalty area beat Olympiakos goalkeeper Balazs Megyeri.

The Reds felt they should have got a penalty in the first half at a Mats Hummels handball inside the box, but considered themselves lucky in the second half when Robert Lewandowski was denied by the Olympiakos right post.

Olympiakos now has just three points and is last in the group, one point behind Dortmund. Its next game is at Marseille in three weeks? time.

?We played below our potential,? admitted Olympiakos central defender Avraam Papadopoulos after the game. ?We were unlucky to concede that goal.?
