Reds beat Kavala in Cup but fail to please

Olympiakos beat Kavala 2-0 in the first leg of their fourth-round tie for the Greek Cup on Wednesday, but its poor performance had its fans and its president fuming.

Two second-half goals by Thanasis Papazoglou and Ljubomir Fejsa gave the Reds a home win ahead of the return leg in two weeks’ time at Kavala, but the Olympiakos fans jeered their own team accusing the players of indifference.

On Thursday Olympiakos president Vangelis Marinakis visited the club’s training center at Rentis and had a talk with the players and the coach, which served to show his displeasure.

The other ties played this week are left wide open, as second-division Apollon drew 1-1 with Panthrakikos on Wednesday, and then on Thursday Veria beat Xanthi 2-1 and Levadiakos downed Kerkyra by the same score.
