PAOK comes from behind to defeat AEK 2-1

PAOK defeated AEK 2-1 on Wednesday in the most important game of the midweek round of games of the Super League postponed from last weekend due to the elections. The result meant that Olympiakos, victor of Xanthi away on Tuesday, has stretched its lead at the top to three points.

AEK led at the start of the second half at Toumba via Christos Aravidis, but Garry Rodriguez and Stefanos Athanasiadis (from the penalty spot) turned things around in PAOK’s favor.

Olympiakos had downed host Xanthi 3-1 a day earlier to extend its perfect record after four games. Costas Fortounis made the difference scoring twice after Xanthi’s Nikolay Dimitrov had cancelled out Jimmy Durmaz’s opener.

Panathinaikos leapfrogged above AEK to second, three points off the pace, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes of its 3-0 game at home with Levadiakos. The Greens had Nano, Nikos Karelis and Abdul Ajagun to thank for their goals.

In other games, Asteras Tripolis saw off Panionios 2-1 at home, PAS Giannina downed Atromitos 1-0 at Giannena and Panetolikos drew 1-1 with Veria in a very entertaining game at Agrinio.

The games of Panthrakikos vs Kalloni Lesvou and Platanias Hanion vs Iraklis ended goalless. That was the first point for Panthrakikos that has just hired new coach Dimitris Eleftheropoulos.
