Olympiakos falls to Efes in Turkey

The first defeat was a heavy one for the Olympiakos basketball team in Europe this year, as Efes Pilsen overpowered their Greek visitors 95-77. For about 32 minutes Olympiakos led in Istanbul, in an excellent first half, when it led 48-37, thanks to an impressive Henry Domercant, who finished the game with 14 points. From the third period on, though, the Turkish side improved its defense and went into the fourth trailing by just four points (56-60). Efes Pilsen also started firing one three-pointer after another, scoring 11 in the second half. Olympiakos therefore surrendered to its seventh defeat in a row by the Turkish club, despite 18 points apiece from Andrija Zizic and Alex Acker. Tonight the other two Greek teams are playing in the Euroleague: Panathinaikos hosts Unicaja Malaga, the side which beat the Greens twice last year, while Aris Thessaloniki travels to Italy to play Benetton Treviso.
