AEK extends its lead with win at Aris

AEK increased its lead at the top of the Super League to three points with a 1-0 away win against Thessaloniki club Aris last night. The visitors went ahead late in the game, in the 83rd minute, with an own goal from Aris’s Brazilian defender Ronaldo. The encounter’s second half was delayed by about 90 minutes after officials decided to remove all visiting AEK fans from the Thessaloniki stadium following a series of incidents. On Saturday, Panathinaikos was held to a scoreless draw by struggling Xanthi to drop three points behind front-runner AEK. Defending champions Olym-piakos joined Panathinaikos in second place with a solid 3-1 away win against aspiring Atromitos Peristeri. Newly promoted Asteras Tripoli overtook both Aris and Atromitos to climb to fourth place courtesy of a 2-0 home win against midtable PAOK, traditionally a formidable side. In Round 10’s other games, all played yesterday, it was: Apollon Kalamaria-Levadiakos, 2-0; OFI-Larissa, 0-0; Panionios-Iraklis, 1-1; Veria-Ergotelis, 1-1.
