Gershon set for second job as Bulgaria’s coach

Bulgarian reports suggested yesterday that Olymp-iakos’s basketball coach Pini Gershon has also been appointed coach of the national team of Bulgaria. The country’s basketball federation president Atanas Tonev confirmed that the governing body had agreed with the Israeli coach, adding that an official presentation of Bulgaria’s new coach would be made at an Athens hotel this Sunday. Gershon has apparently agreed to this post, a part-time commitment, from next summer, provided it will not affect his main job at Olympiakos. The Bulgarian association had tried to lure the former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach last summer. Reports indicate that this development may pave the way for one or more American stars at Olympiakos toward acquiring Bulgarian citizenship. Olympiakos meets Italian club Monte di Paschi Siena tonight in a seventh round Euroleague Group A game. They share second place on 4-2 records along with Tau Ceramica.
