Outgoing migrants intercepted off Crete
Coast Guard officials on Crete detained 78 undocumented immigrants on the small islet of Elafonisi, off the island’s southeastern coast, early on Friday.
The migrants, who were spotted by a local fishermen, told officials that they had been planning to travel to Italy. They were taken to the premises of the old city hall in Souda Bay, Hania, where they were to remain until authorities decide whether to deport them. There were no details about the migrants’ ethnic origin.
