SYRIZA maintains narrow lead over ND in new poll
A public opinion poll published by MRB on Monday showed leftist opposition SYRIZA maintaining a narrow lead over conservative coalition leader New Democracy on the popularity scale.
The poll, conducted between December 2-11, saw SYRIZA glean 21.9 percent and ND 21 percent of positive responses to the question: “Who would you vote for if elections were held this Sunday.”
Far-right party Golden Dawn came third at 8.9 percent on the same question, followed by the Greek Communist Party (KKE) with 5 percent, Independent Greeks with 4.8 percent, junior coalition party PASOK with 4.7 percent and Democratic Left with 3.1 percent. The Ecologist Greens scored 1,5 percent of the vote and 4.3 percent of respondents said “another party.”
Respondents said that they believed the most likely party to win a snap election is SYRIZA with 39.6 percent, followed by ND with 34.7 percent.
As far as the intention to vote in European Parliament elections in spring is concerned, 22 percent said they would probably opt for SYRIZA, 20.8 percent supported New Democracy and 9.1 percent chose Golden Dawn.
Independent Greeks garnered 5.5 percent on the same question, KKE 5.1 percent, PASOK 4.9 percent and Democratic Left 3.2 percent.
A Marc poll for the Ependitis newspaper in late November gave SYRIZA 29.7 percent and New Democracy 27.8 percent of the popularity vote.
