FT admits publishing error in Greek government job ad
The Financial Times acknowledged Friday that it made a mistake in publishing an advertisement by the Greek government calling for applications for the post of general secretary of public revenues after the deadline had expired.
The ad appeared in Thursday’s edition of the newspaper, prompting questions about why Athens had asked for it to be run given that the deadline for applications was four days earlier, on December 6.
Apart from being on the receiving end of criticism on social media, the government was also questioned about the ad in Parliament by New Democracy MP Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Finance Ministry said that the ad initially ran on December 3 and it published a letter from the Financial Times, signed by global director for career management Steve Playford, in which the newspaper admitted that it was the publication’s own decision to run it again on December 10 “without realizing the date was void.”
The ministry said that the announcement for the job, which is available to non-Greeks as well as locals, also appeared in the Economist and the Wall Street Journal.
