Accountants' protest action affects tax declarations

TAGS: Strike

Accountant offices and freelance accountants will continue to refrain from submitting the tax declarations of their clients to protest pension reforms, which they say will divide their profession into two tiers of income earners.

According to the Economic Chamber of Greece (ECG), their abstention, which began earlier this month, has already had an impact, as only 5 percent of Greek taxpayers’ declarations for 2015 have so far been submitted.

“Economists and accountants-tax experts are taking matters into their own hands because they know it is a struggle for survival,” said ECG president Konstantinos Kollias, while the spokesman of the nationwide federation of self-employed tax consultants (POFEE), Panayiotis Theodorakopoulos, expressed similar sentiments, saying that the “abstention media continue.”
