Gang used gas, explosives to blow up ATMs, steal 1.2 mln

Three members of a gang wanted for blasting ATMs were arrested earlier this month. Police say they had 11 successful attempts and 14 unsuccessful ones, stealing about 1.2 million euros. The gang’s activity extended from January 2018 to spring 2020; the initial two members used liquefied gas, but when they were joined by a third member, who had just gotten out of jail in summer 2019, they switched to explosives. Police say one member who was confronted with the identification of his DNA from an injury he sustained in one of the attempts confessed in detail, implicating the other two.
