Funeral service held for ex-president Papoulias
The funeral service for former Greek president Karolos Papoulias, who died on Sunday at 92, took place on Wednesday in Athens, in the Church of St Spyridon, in the neighborhood of Pangrati, with all political leaders present. Current President Katerina Sakellaropoulou said Papoulias, who served two terms as president from 2005 to 2015, was a “faithful, selfless servant of the state.” Papoulias, a socialist longtime MP who also served as foreign minister, took a low-key approach to what is largely a ceremonial position.
