Firemen battling blaze in western Rhodes

Emergency crews were on Monday working to contain a wildfire burning through pine forest near the village of Kritinia on the western coast of the Dodecanese island of Rhodes.

The Fire Service said 16 firemen with six fire engines were operating in the area, assisted by two water-dropping aircraft and two helicopters.

It was not immediately clear if homes were threatened by the fire.
