Parties agree to televised debate on May 10

The six main parties have agreed to a televised pre-election debate, which will be held on May 10 at 9 p.m., state broadcaster ERT has reported.

The decision was made at a meeting of the interparty elections committee, which was chaired by caretaker Interior Minister Kalliopi Spanou.

The debate, which will be conducted by ERT journalist Giorgos Kouvaras, will air on six channels.

Questions will be submitted by journalists from other stations with a national range. The five themes include a) economy, development and jobs, b) foreign policy and defense, c) state, institutions and transparency, d) health, education and the social state, and e) environment and energy.

The meeting rejected a proposal from main opposition SYRIZA for a second debate between its leader and New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

National elections will be held on May 21.
