Court revokes permit for migrant reception center over environmental concerns
Greece’s highest administrative court, the Council of State, has revoked the permit to construct a Reception and Identification Center (RIC) for migrants and asylum seekers at Plati-Vastria on eastern Lesvos. This decision comes in response to a petition submitted by the North Aegean Region and was officially announced on Tuesday.
The judges annulled the project due to its absence of an environmental impact assessment report. Additionally, the approval for constructing a road leading to the center, which would have traversed 2.1 hectares (21,011 sqm) of forestland, was also revoked.
