Civil servants’ union calls rally, stoppages
The civil servants? union, ADEDY, is to stage a protest rally in central Athens on Wednesday to protest the government?s plans for a so-called ?labor reserve scheme? which opposition parties have condemned as a backdoor way to layoffs.
The rally is to start at 1 p.m. in central Klafthmonos Square. ADEDY also called a three-hour work stoppage for Thursday, starting from 12.30 p.m., and a 24-hour strike for October 6, noting that the date of the strike might change.
In a related development, air-traffic controllers have declared a 24-hour strike for Sunday and a four-hour work stoppage for next Wednesday.
