Greek student released after being arrested in Istanbul protest

A young Greek who was among several foreign students arrested in Istanbul late on Wednesday amid ongoing protests against the Turkish government was released without charge on Thursday.

Giorgos Iatridis faced a prosecutor on Thursday but was not charged.

He was reported to be one of 13 foreign students taken into custody.

It was not clear whether authorities would deport him along with the other students arrested in Istanbul, which has been gripped since last week by protests prompted by plans to redevelop Gezi Park.

Earlier, SYRIZA had expressed solidarity with the arrested Greek student.
