Police believe Paros bank robbers still on island

Police believe there is a high probability the bank robbers who shot dead 53-year-old taxi driver Dimitris Michas on Paros last week are still on the island.

One of the four robbers shot Michas twice following a bank raid in the town of Naoussa on Friday but officers suspect that the strong police presence on the island following the incident may have prevented the assailants from leaving.

Police believe they have recovered one of the robbers? mobile phones from the scene of the shooting.

They have also identified the burned-out getaway car as a stolen vehicle that was seen at the scene of another armed robbery in Athens two years ago.

In addition, officers found a hat thought to belong to one of the robbers.

It has been sent for forensic testing. CCTV footage from the bank?s cameras is also being examined.
