Almost 500 Greek police officers taken off VIP protection duty
A total of 460 police officers have been taken off VIP duty and returned to normal service since the government came to power, Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias informed Parliament on Wednesday.
Dendias said that the force was in the process of examining whether more officers could be relieved of having to guard politicians, businessmen, journalists and other potential targets for criminals and terrorists.
Dendias also revealed that former Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos has four police guards and that the costs for traveling between his home and central Athens are covered by the state.
