Venizelos, Davutoglu hail TAP project in Ankara
The foreign ministers of Greece and Turkey on Friday hailed the geopolitical importance of a new Caspian Sea gas pipeline running across the two countries and bringing gas to Europe.
During a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara, Greece’s recently-appointed Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos said the project will “transform the geopolitical landscape” in the region. Speaking to journalists, both men described the project as an “energy bridge.”
The two sides have agreed to push a series of bilateral agreements signed during the High-Level Cooperation Council held in Istanbul on March 4.
Asked by Kathimerini about the prospect of a Greek delineation of an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Aegean, Davutoglu said that Ankara wants to “turn the Aegean into a sea of peace and prosperity.”
The Turkish minister said he is planning to visit Greece by the end of the year.
