Fruit seller discovers large cache of cocaine in banana shipment
Drug enforcement officers were investigating on Wednesday a shipment of bananas from Colombia that was found to contain more than 500 kilograms of unprocessed cocaine hidden in the fruit crates.
The illegal cargo was discovered by accident on the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes by a fruit merchant, leading authorities to suspect that the shipment may have gone astray as it first went through customs in Italy, which may have been the intended destination of the drugs.
