Hellenic Red Cross board resigns after pressure from Geneva

The 13 board members at the Greek branch of the Red Cross have resigned following pressure from the international organization, Kathimerini has learned.

The resignations were tendered last week following a request by the Health Ministry.

Sources said the Red Cross had concerns about the management of its Greek branch and had requested twice this year that the board resign.

The Red Cross wanted the Greek section’s charter to be changed to redefine the president’s role. It was also concerned about debts that the Red Cross in Athens had run up to the Geneva-based organization.
