PASOK youth wing poster outrages family of murdered rapper

The family of murdered rapper Pavlos Fyssas has voiced its disapproval of PASOK’s youth wing using an image of the 34-year-old on an Internet poster ahead of events marking the bloody student uprising of November 17, 1973.

A lawyer representing Fyssas’s family accused PASOK’s youth wing of trying to exploit the rapper’s “sacrifice.” “He was not part of their politics, especially as he was against the memorandum,” said Giorgos Maragos.

The poster bears the images of Grigoris Lambrakis, Sotiris Petroulas and Nikos Temponeras. Lambrakis was a pacifist politician murdered by two far-right thugs in 1963. Petroulas was a student killed by police during a protest in 1965. Temponeras was a teacher murdered by a member of New Democracy’s youth wing in 1991.

PASOK’s youth wing said it was including the image of Fyssas, who was stabbed to death by a Golden Dawn member, alongside others murdered by “fascists” to “honor him, not exploit him.”
