Further checks on 143 tax inspectors

Financial prosecutors are due to receive shortly the results of checks on the finances of 143 tax inspectors, including heads of tax offices, who were found to have transferred in excess of 100,000 euros each abroad between 2009 and 2011, it emerged on Wednesday.

The inspections were carried out by Finance Ministry officials. Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Wednesday he would ask for the checks to be extended to all civil servants who had transferred more than 100,000 euros out of the country during the same period.

Mitsotakis asked for the audits to begin with public sector workers who are already facing disciplinary action due to other alleged offenses.
