SYRIZA MEP calls for meeting between Samaras and Tsipras
SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis added his voice on Monday to those calling for a meeting between his party leader and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
Papadimoulis wrote on his Twitter account that the two men should meet to discuss a deal on the presidential election, national polls and a plan for debt relief given that the troika “is in no hurry” to return to Greece to complete the pending review of the country’s adjustment program.
SYRIZA sources said that Papadimoulis’s comment was in line with the position put forward by Tsipras after his recent meeting with President Karolos Papoulias. Then, the SYRIZA leader suggested that the parties should agree on a presidential candidate but that his nomination should only be put to Parliament after national elections.
New Democracy MP Yiannis Michelakis also called for Samaras and Tsipras to meet for talks.
