Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not rule himself out of conservative leadership race

Former Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis did not rule himself out on Friday of challenging for New Democracy’s leadership should the conservative party hold a contest soon.

“We will discuss it if it happens,” he told Mega TV. Mitsotakis was one of several top New Democracy officials who met in ex-Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’s absence earlier this week.

The gathering was organized by ex-Education Minister Marietta Giannakou, who told Star TV on Friday that a group of New Democracy officials would hold talks with former leader Costas Karamanlis. “Our aim is for him to play a role in New Democracy returning to its ideological roots… and values,” she said.
