Michalis Liapis. Along with Costas Karamanlis, he is also a nephew of ND’s founder Constantine Karamanlis and is assuming a Cabinet post for the first time. However, he served under Mitsotakis as deputy minister for trade (1992-93). Now 51 years of age, he is a law graduate. In the past, he clashed with former party leader Miltiades Evert and originally supported Giorgos Souflias for the party leadership until Karamanlis presented his own candidacy. He was secretary for ND’s political planning until after the 2000 elections.
